A Lake District Farm Shop (Channel 4)
April 19, 2022A last-minute job in March turned out to be one of my most rewarding - photographing a succession of artists and makers at Tebay and the surrounding area for series 2 of Channel 4’s “A Lake District Farm Shop”.
I started off at Tebay itself on a fairly dank and damp Thursday, where I photographed staff member and artist James Dean, irrepressible cleaner Tina, and Jane and Emily’s gelato stall. Aside from meeting all these inspiring individuals, highlight of the day was finding that there’s a cheeky little secret road which can take you directly from the Northbound to Southbound services. It was like finding Brigadoon…
Day two was absolutely bonkers, starting off in Kendal photographing the award-winning team at Lakes Beer Co., followed by a trip to Kirkby Lonsdale to photograph farmer James with his flock at Love Ewe Dairy, and then weaver Laura. Next stop was milk soap producer Maria, in a village just outside Ulverston, followed by the final appointment of the day - a seemingly neverending (and impossibly beautiful) drive to Hampson Woods to photograph woodsman Jonty in his workshop. Ten hours of solid non-stop driving and photographing - an absolute buzz.
Even better was starting to see a selection of my images appearing in print and online over the past week, including The Guardian, Daily Express, Radio Times, Sky, Channel 4 (obviously) and several specialist TV websites and local newspapers.
